Is It Time for a Career Change?

By Misty Fingar, engagement manager

Have you ever thought, “It’s time for a change”? Or maybe you have retired and are looking for something new and different. Maybe you are looking to apply your skills to a different field. At some point, we have all thought about making a career change for one reason or another.

Making this kind of change can be scary. Recently, I knew I was ready to shift to a different side of working in the world of sorority. I’ve worked or volunteered in the field since 2005. I’ve worked on a college campus. I’ve worked with advisors. I’ve managed departments, volunteers and employees. I’ve planned programs and handled student discipline. I’ve handled large-scale budgets and served on university committees.

When the opportunity arose to become an engagement manager with Pearl Stone Partners, I jumped at it. You see, I love working with people. I love that no two days are the same – which is what drew me to higher education in the first place. I love being challenged and providing a great experience for the people I work with. I love the analytical side and creating processes and programs that meet the needs of people I’m working with. I knew as an engagement manager I would get the opportunity to work with some amazing people, be challenged in my thought process, learn something new, utilize my skills in a new way and be able to provide exceptional service to our employees and stakeholders.

The skills that I have acquired over the years have all transferred to my engagement manager role, allowing me to bring a different perspective to the team while promoting the mission of Pearl Stone Partners – to deliver comprehensive human resource services and support employees and those who direct them to enhance the Real. Strong. Women.® Experience.

If you have ever thought about making a career shift, I encourage you to think about what you’re looking for in that move. What are the skills that you hope to use in that role? Do you love the opportunity to get to work with young adults as they continue to develop and move toward their future goals? If you love working with people, managing a facility’s day-to-day operations, making connections with people and having a flexible schedule with no two days the same, then becoming a house director might be right move for you.

Pearl Stone Partners employs a wide array of employees from graduate students to retired teachers and flight attendants to lifelong house directors. We seek people who want to enhance the living experience for our members while maintaining the Alpha Chi Omega property. If you are ready to make a change, I encourage you to reach out to contactus@pearlstonepartners.org and learn more about joining the Pearl Stone Partners house director team.
