We’re in the process of developing an exciting new program for our collegians. A four-year collegiate experience program is being launched that will help each member transform and grow into the kind of woman who can make a difference to herself, her friends, her family, her community, her employers and her world.
This fall, 11 collegiate chapters will begin field testing curriculum and processes for the Alpha Chi Omega 4-Year Experience. This first wave of implementation will focus specifi cally on dedication (new member training) and the freshman and junior year experiences. Then, in fall 2011, these same 11 chapters will field test the sophomore and senior year curriculum.
Assuming field testing is as successful as we are anticipating, fraternity-wide implementation will begin in fall 2012.
This yet-to-be-named collegiate experience is designed to be a transformative program with research-based, student development focused curriculum specifically created for each year of a member’s college journey (extending our fraternity-wide curriculum far beyond our eight-week membership training course).
How did we get here?
Beginning in 2008, Alpha Chi Omega partnered with The Leadership Institute to conduct fraternity-wide research to identify strengths and areas for improvement in our member experience.
Based on surveys and interviews with more than 1,500 collegians, alumnae, volunteers, staff and resigned members, we have created a peer-guided program designed to (among other things):
- Create an intentional connection between the fraternity’s core values and each member’s everyday life.
- Offer relevant, timely and new programming for every academic year with special attention given to juniors and
seniors to help increase their feeling of connectedness, value and sense of purpose to their chapter.
- Empower every member with life-skills that promote a healthy and balanced lifestyle that will extend far beyond
her four-year college experience.
- Encourage and promote self-reflection to help members recognize, understand and value how their Alpha Chi
Omega experience is helping them develop personally and professionally.
The data is clear. Our collegians are asking for change, and we are excited about this opportunity to implement an experience that can only be had by Alpha Chi Omega members.
What's in store?
Some examples of curriculum collegians will experience are:
- How to make laugh out loud, know my deepest darkest secret, and most embarrassing moment kind of friends.
- Real, strong, women know their values.
- Dreaming for the future; setting goals for today.
- Leadership is in the details.
- Why is she so lucky? (understanding gratitude)
- Help me, help you. The role of mentoring.
- The chemistry of stress.
- I landed an interview, now what?!?
- Here comes the real ‘real world’ – preparing for post-graduation finances.
Please note … this is only a partial list.
